Inter-regional session for the Caribbean and the Pacific: facilitating the inter-regional cooperation for better water and sanitation service provision through information and experience

· Coordinator :
United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)

The session is the kick-off for initiating concrete activities to facilitate inter-regional cooperation and partnership activities between the Caribbean and the Pacific water stakeholders, including water and sanitation utilities. Small islands states in these regions share common challenges caused by a similar geographical context, for example their vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. Two initial exchanges prior to this session took place in 2014 and they confirmed that a partnership for sharing knowledge, experiences and expertise can help their own activities be more effective and efficient for a better water and sanitation service provision as well as for the implementation of integrated water resources management.
The objective of the session is to create a platform for cooperation between operators of the two regions to facilitate more useful exchanges of knowledge, experiences and expertise. An MOU will be signed between key stakeholders to facilitate such a partnership with identification of some initial joint activities.
